This book is different from anything else you have or ever will read May 24, 2008 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
My wife and I have read this book and given many copies away to others. Everyone that has ever read the book tells us that they have never read anything like this. Please don't be dissuaded by some of the comments concerning Biblical errors. While I don't agree with everything that is written in the book, please keep in mind that this is a work of fiction. Mr. Young is telling a story...a very powerful story about the love of God. I've never read a book wherein God is a character. Mr. Young must be aquainted with loss to have the insight that he shares. A friend of mine commented, "I don't think we general feel that comfortable being that close to God, but it's great"
About The Shack May 24, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
In a word - WOW! This book is awesome! I would suggest that everyone and his brother read this book. I laughed and I cried. I couldn't wait to turn the page and I did not want the next page to be the last page.
Don't waste your time May 23, 2008 6 out of 12 found this review helpful
The back cover of The Shack says, "You'll want everyone you know to read this book!" I could not disagree more - I don't think I want anyone I know to read this book, least of all those who are not strong Christians. I shudder to think of the idea of Christianity that nonbelievers have after reading this book.
While I realize that this is a work of fiction, there was something unsettling about Young's portrayal of the Trinity. And as others have pointed out, there are so many things that are theologically inconsistent with the Bible. I don't want to read something that contradicts the basic tenets of Christianity on so many levels, whether it's fiction or not. I was so disturbed, I only got through about 3/4 of the book.
This book made me wonder if WE are trying to create God in OUR own image.
The Shack; Shaky theology May 23, 2008 8 out of 14 found this review helpful
I have never had to force myself to plough through a book like I had to with "The Shack". This book takes all I know to be true about God and the Trinity and reduces it to the broken shack that is the central symbol of the book. Granted, the author has talent as a storyteller, but when it comes to theology, he clearly is confused. If you are a young Christian in the faith, PLEASE do not read this book. This book is heretical and blasphemous, and unless you have some knowledge of sound foundational theology with which to compare its statements, you will be very easily swayed and manipulated into believing spiritual falsehoods.

I was in tears at several points. As I read 'The Shack' God did open heart surgery, and I could literally feel healing take place in the wounded areas of my life, especially relating to how I relate to Daddy God, Holy Spirit, Jesus and my earthly parents. I highly recommend this book!!!
