Product Description In her latest, most soulful and side-splitting send-up of church life yet, Pat G'Orge-Walker's hilarious cast of parishioners battle their worst vices, the funny and serious sides of aging, and each other... Mother Sasha Pray Onn and Mother Bea Blister live on the edge--of Christianity, that is, and they're about to knock Sister Betty off her sanctified perch. As the senior citizen matrons of the Ain't Nobody Saved but Us-All Others Goin' to Hell church, their devotion to the Lord must compete with their secret passions for gambling and grudges against each other. But their long-held animosity is about to be complicated when the new pastor, the Reverend Leotis Tom, wants to reorganize the Mothers Board in time for the upcoming Las Vegas Conference and asks a reluctant Sister Betty to run for President. After a scuffle at a secret Bingo game at the No Hope Now-Mercy Nevah church, the bumbling Reverend Bling Moe Bling pacifies Mothers Blister and Pray Onn by giving them two tickets to Las Vegas where the annual Mothers Board Conference will be held. In Vegas, Mother Blister befriends a destitute young woman named Zipporah who does something no one has ever been able to: touch Mother Blister's heart. But in trying to help her, Mother Blister finds out Zipporah's past might be at complete odds with Mother Blister's present. As the chaos and comedy get out of hand, so do the questions about who is who, who did what to whom, and where and when. Just as surprising are the answers, which show that despite everyone's best--or worst--intentions, from cradle to grave, it's God who is ultimately in charge.

Somewhat Saved October 29, 2008 A very enjoyable book. I lov Sister Betty. Pat G'Orge-Walker has done it again. At some points in the story I was crying and laughing at the same time.
God is in control! September 1, 2008 From her crafty use of names to describe her characters to the chaos and confusion caused by those trying to hide their secret sins, this book had me in stitches! She gives a humorous spin to the not so humorous condition of the church today. I see this book as being an inspiration to those who think that they've come up on the wrong side of the track and there's no hope for them. We know that all things work together for good, to them who love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose. God Is In Control! In the midst of the evil, the lying, and the deception, emerges a beautiful love story between two people of different backgrounds. I would have loved to have seen this part of the story line developed just a little more. This was a great read and I look forward to reading more of your works.

4 Sister Hugs
On the edge of Christianity August 11, 2008 Church is the most interesting place, and often the most potent, if not the most physical, battles are fought there, in the name of the Lord! This story centers around three church sisters who have all reached that promised 'three-score and ten' and are still doing battle; Sister Betty, Mother Sasha Pray Onn and Mother Bea Blister.
The battle is such a typical one; who has the power outside of the pulpit? The word in the local paper says Sister Betty is going to upstage current Mothers Board president, Sister Pray Onn; and, all you know what is about to break loose. It seems the new pastor is on Sister Betty's side, he wants her to represent the church at an upcoming conference in Las Vegas. Not to be outdone, Mothers Pray Onn and Blister are determined to get there. A pastor at another church pacifies them with tickets to Las Vegas, where of course the annual Mothers Board Conference will be held. The trip will prove to be revealing, enlightening, and uplifting. Secrets will be uncovered and lives will be changed. Can these somewhat saved Christians get out of their own way and learn how to truly serve the Lord?
SOMEWHAT SAVED is a view of church members who talk more Christianity than they live; "don't do as I do, do as I say do". These sage pillars learn lessons in what it means to love-thy-neighbor, judge-not, and do-unto-others. Their unsanctified, but comical, antics will have readers asking if the real Christians will please stand up. But, with all of its humor and chasm G'Orge-Walker sends very potent messages. She lets readers know who has the power, that forgiveness is a gift of God, and that God is undeniably in charge. SOMEWHAT SAVED is a good account of things that should not happen within the consecrated walls of a worshipful heart.

Drama here, drama there, drama everywhere! May 5, 2008 With all the drama going on in the world today, you would think church would be the one place you would expect to find peace and solitude, right?
Well this is definitely not the case in the small town of Pelzer, South Carolina. In fact, if you know what's good for you, you'll run the other direction as fast as you can when you see Crossing Over Sanctuary Temple. Why you ask? Because the colorful characters - Sasha Pray Onn and Bea Blister, members of the Mother's Board - are not exactly the epitome of saintly church mothers. They are troublemakers, rabble rousers, and yes, they revel in it. And if hell-raising in Pelzer ain't enough, Mothers Pray Onn and Blister take their shenanigans on the road to Las Vegas, better known as Sin City, and they fit right in.
They've traveled to Las Vegas to the annual Mother's Board conference, hoping to oust Sister Betty, their arch rival, out of the nomination for president of the Mother's Board. In the midst of all their chaotic, comedic capers, secrets from the past come back to haunt them in the form of Zipporah Moses, an aspiring songstress, who unwittingly shakes up the family tree, causing even more drama.
Although Somewhat Saved is the latest novel in the "Sister Betty" series, this was my first "Sister Betty" read ever! I've heard that Walker's stories are laugh out loud and uproariously funny; so I went into this read with those expectations. Though the antics of the characters were indeed laughable, but the seriousness of the underlying message of salvation, redemption, forgiveness and honesty quietly, but effectively, shines through.

Praise the Lord for Sister Betty!!!! April 23, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
She's at it again. Sister Betty is laugh out loud, funny, entertaining is a understatemnet when you talk about Pat G'Orge-Walker books. She has a way that makes the words just flow. I have loved Sister Betty from the very first book that she was in. She was a combination of all the older SAVED women that I grew up with. She keeps you on your toes, and looking behind you, thinking she sitting in the pew just behind you, ready to pull on your ear if you talk to much in church. Or make you spit out your gum.
If you are looking for a good laugh a a great story line, get this book.
