Product Description For the legions of readers who enjoy books that celebrate life?s simple pleasures, eighty-seven-year-old Dorothy Jean Wetstra and her beloved farming town of Partonville, Illinois, will become instant favorites. In this hilarious, touching series, Charlene Ann Baumbich introduces readers to Dearest Dorothy, who tools around town in a 1976 Lincoln Continental nicknamed ?The Tank,? plays bunco regularly with her pals, and grabs a stool at Harry?s counter often enough to stay on top of the latest-breaking news?which she is often creating. In the series debut, Dearest Dorothy, Are We There Yet?, Dorothy faces a decision that may change her town forever, and her gift for shaking things up comes in handy. In the second book, Dearest Dorothy, Slow Down, You're Wearing Us Out!, the town?s irresistible cast of characters is back in full swing as they confront some of the many surprises life sends their way. So pull up a chair and get ready for fireworks, laughter, and we?ll-get-through-it-all-with-faith friendships.

nice inspirational book September 5, 2008 Lovely story about the day to day life in a small town story revolving mainly around retired people (dorothy is 89). great different characters with a wide range of attitudes etc just like in real life. dorothy has loads of spunk and the author gives her a great simple faith - the prayers to God are funny but personally helpful at the same time (should we all do such short prayers with the same faith). Looking forward to reading more in this series, do recommend it for all ages (I am in my 30s) but a lovely gift maybe for an elderly person that lasts longer than chocolates!
GRAND EVERYDAY LIFE April 7, 2008 At Partonville life is grand with very colorful characters and Dorothy Wetstra is sure to be in the middle of whatever is going on.
The residents of this lovely town are mostly all elderly and they don't like change very much. Even though they are older people they still have a soft ball team and Dorothy is the cheer leader. These wonderful people are just full of life and believe that God will take care of them. There is a lot of love and caring in this town.
Katie Durbin and her son Josh who live in Chicago come to town to attend her aunt's funeral and clean out her very clutered house. Josh falls in love with this town and with Dearest Dorothy.
Gladys, Cora, Earl,Lester, Arthur and all the other characters just leap off the pages of this book into your heart.
This is book one of a series of six books (so far) and I just can't wait to read all of them. I am now reading book two, "Slow Down Your'e Wearing Us Out"
The following are the titles of the rest of the Dearest Dorothy books. Hope this helps you find all of them.
Book three: "Help, I've Lost Myself" Book Four: "Who Would Have Ever Thought?!" Book Five:"Merry Everything" Book Six:"If Not Now,When?"
The Lady in Pink November 23, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Fasten your seat belt before getting in the car while Dorothy Wetstra drives, because she drives fast. The author, Charlene Ann Baumbich has created an 87 year old madcap heroine who zips around the small town of Partonville and surrounding farms in her car known as "the tank." Her signature color is pink, and her best friends are members of The Happy Hookers. Its not what the name implies! Dorothy earned her nickname of "Dearest Dorothy" because she is a zany albeit wise "dear", who is facing alone the most important decision of her life, relying on God to steer her right. When Katie, a career driven mom, and Josh, her unhappy teenage son, reluctantly visit Partonville and meet Dearest Dorothy, the fireworks begin. Josh and Katie are in dire need of lightening up, and Dorothy appoints herself to the task. This is a fun fast read, and there are more books in this first of a series. If you like Jan Karon .... October 30, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this book for my mother who just loves the Jan Karon Mitford series. She is now into the 4th or 5th Dearest Dorothy book and says they are just as good. Gentle, friendly and hometowny.
Fun series August 30, 2007 I love little town series such as Jan Karon's Mitford or Philip Gulley's Harmony, so when I read about the Dearest Dorothy series, I decided to give them a try. I was not disappointed. The main character really is a dear! She's so spunky and fun loving. There's not a lot of drama or poignancy, just a nice light read.
