Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Welcome to the fabled Gold Coast, that stretch on the North Shore of Long Island that once held the greatest concentration of wealth and power in America. Here two men are destined for an explosive collision: John Sutter, Wall Street lawyer, holding fast to a fading aristocratic legacy; and Frank Bellarosa, the Mafia don who seizes his piece of the staid and unprepared Gold Coast like a latter-day barbarian chief and draws Sutter and his regally beautiful wife, Susan, into his violent world. Told from Sutter's sardonic and often hilarious point of view, and laced with sexual passion and suspense, THE GOLD COAST is Nelson DeMille's captivating story of friendship and seduction, love and betrayal.

2 out of 5 stars BORING   January 4, 2009
I like to finish books that I start. I haven't quite finished this one yet, and I'm having a REALLY hard time getting through it. I keep waiting for something to happen. I'm about 3/4 of the way thru it and nothing yet. This is a really boring book and nothing like Plum Island. I wish I had read the 1 star reviews before I purchased it.

4 out of 5 stars I liked this book.   January 3, 2009
Ok, truth be told, my wife bought this book at a used bookstore because it was purple and it matched some candle that she had. So, the book sat on its side in the bathroom for 2 years with a candle on it until one day when I needed something to read. No joke.

I couldn't put the book down and loved the story. I'm a big mafia buff so the Don's involvement was fascinating to me. I'll definitely read more of DeMille's work.

3 out of 5 stars Mary from Novi   January 1, 2009
Boring at the beginning - but gets good in about the middle (and is great at the end). Not one of DeMille's best though.

5 out of 5 stars One of the Greats   December 27, 2008
As so many have already said, this is simply a great book and a must read for anyone seriously interested in nonfiction novels. Probably DeMille's best effort.

4 out of 5 stars First time reader   December 6, 2008
This is the first book I have read by this author. It was rather interesting especially with the humor of the main character. I do plan to read The Gate House when it is in paperback.
