Product Description A poignantly rendered debut novel that follows the Texas-sized loves and losses of star-crossed newlyweds, forced by the consequences of their passion to leave upscale Houston for a small town in the panhandle. Young minister Mark Reynolds has every reason to be optimistic: he'll likely be promoted to senior minister at the largest Baptist church in Houston, and he's deeply in love with his fiancee-the lovely, independant Amanda. But his dreams and reputation are shattered when he learns that Amanda is pregnant-and things become infinitely worse when he loses his job and she loses their baby. The young couple migrates toa small town in hopes of starting anew, but the shadow of their lost child settles in Amanda's soul, and she grows reclusive towards the husband she still loves. Though determined to return home after an extended family visit, a wrong turn into Mexico leaves Amanda uncertain of her next move. A desperate search and an unlikely reunion finds the couple re-examining the life they've known and forging a new understanding of the future that stands before them.

Very Character-driven! December 29, 2008 I had the honor of meeting Mrs. Coleman at the NETWO conference in Pittsburg, TX. Aside from being an extremely talented writer, she's an exceedingly pleasant person. Personality aside, I was extremely pleased with this book. I got it for my fiancee, but read it myself after exhausting my reading list. It isn't normally the kind of book I read, but it was nothing short of amazing. I hope to see these characters again.... They're very interesting. And for the record, my fiancee loved this book as well, so there you go.... two positive reviews for the price of one!
Grace abounds in Potter Springs September 29, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Britta Coleman's award-winning debut novel presents a love story filled with broken characters searching for a second chance, searching for grace. Set mainly in small-town Texas, the novel's main characters convey their desires to be known, rescued, and loved with such authenticity that they reach out to the reader in a subtle, endearing, "we could be friends" kind of way.
Great characters aren't accidents; they come to life through great writing. And here, the writing is superb. The words pour eloquently off the pages straight into the reader's heart.
In writing this novel, Britta did not leave her deeply grounded faith at the door; instead, it is obvious on every page. The message of grace resounds, and thankfully, it resounds to a larger audience because Britta sought to publish Potter Springs with its redeeming message in the mainstream marketplace. Thus, this enjoyable page-turner will have you believing that "being lost is a good way to start getting found."
Light and Romantic June 30, 2007 This was a light, quick little romance. This is a story about Amanda and Mark. Mark is a Baptist minister. He is very much in love with Amanda. So much, they break the moral law and have to quickly get married. Potter Springs is a small little Texas town where Mark lands a job as an assistant minister of the local church. The rest of the novel takes you through how they establish their life in this new town. The character development isn't real deep but the story is definitely engrossing. Not really believable, but enjoyable.
Deep reading January 3, 2007 This book is not your usual light reading. Definitely not beach reading! Good thought provoking story, though and well worth reading.
A Sweet and Realistic Love Story February 15, 2006 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Mark Reynolds, associate pastor at a thriving Houston Church, is collecting a sack filled with trouble. His faith and resolve are tested by lust and he stumbles into it face first.
His choices are mounting a case against him and things don't look to be improving as he attempts to live two different lives. One holy. One secular. Even with his beloved Amanda Thompson at his side, Mark can't escape the sting of consequences that end up affecting them both.
Amanda is pregnant.
When Mark loses his enviable job as pastor-in-waiting to an aging minister, he is literally lost. Feeling lost brings back the pain of knowing his own father ran away with another woman, making him the "man" of the family. It also adds more pressure for him to make his mother proud.
What will she say now that he has fallen? What will Amanda's well-heeled and controlling mother say? Amanda becomes defiant in her decision to have the baby. Mark mostly looks at the ground supporting his feet.
In a small, church-owned house in Potter Springs, Amanda and Mark attempt to find a sense of normalcy. He has a new, less flashy job at a country church that provides him with a dank, musty office overlooking a trash dumpster.
Unfortunately, Mark believes this new start will erase their pain. It doesn't. He doesn't see that until it's almost too late.
Potter Springs is a sweet but realistic love story. While it doesn't lose its romantic thread, it doesn't shy away from showing the consequences of taking risks. This is a good and recommended story.
