Product Description In a remote county of North Carolina, thirty-year-old Kathryn Guilford receives the news that her long-time friend and one-time suitor is dead. The authorities declare the death as a suicide, but Kathryn is not convinced. In desperation she turns to Dr. Nick Polchak, the Bug Man, to help her learn the truth-and she is introduced to a mysterious world of blood-seeking flies and flesh-eating beetles. But there's a problem...Kathryn Guilford has a pathological fear of insects. Now she must confront her darkest fears to unearth a decade-long conspiracy that threatens to turn her entire world upside down. The flies on the wall can talk...and forensic entomologist Nick Polchak is listening.

The title says it all October 16, 2008 I enjoyed the book immensely to the point my husband would beg me to turn the side-table lamp off well after midnight when I was still reading on a work night. My only complaint was lack of Christian content. My husband and I have used these types of books more than once as witnessing tools as he works in the law enforcement field. Otherwise, terrific book.
Sick yet Satisfying August 31, 2008 It took me a while to hunt down this book since it's been out a few years, but it was well worth it. Dr. Nick Polchak remains one of the most dynamic and convincing characters I've read in a long time. Though entomology is definitely not my forte, the information is presented in an engaging and realistic manner.
Aside from superb characterization, Tim Downs presents a well-plotted and paced mystery. Kathryn Guilford comes to life amidst pages upon pages of witty dialogue and heartfelt letters from three hometown boys who went off to war very much in love with her. If the story seems at times overly convenient, it can easily forgiven. Overall, a very entertaining book. Squeamish people might want to forgo it but you're loss. Definitely the type of book one could pick up again in a few years and enjoy all over again.
Wow! August 17, 2008 I enjoyed it very much! Never thought I could think differently of a maggot, but he sure comes at it scientifically. I intend on reading every book in this series!
Great story- I am looking for the 2nd book July 9, 2008 I remember when this book came out, with it's catchy title, but it got lost in the lists of books I have to read. Then last week it was in the "Books to go" section of my local library and on a whim I grabbed it- with it's yellow cover and big black letters. I have a pathological fear of bugs, mostly spiders, but I could almost FEEL myself drawn in and thinking- maybe I'll go to school and learn about bugs! That's how good the book is. I am looking for the next in the series right now!
Good quick read! January 28, 2008 Tim Downs first caught my attention as an outstanding speaker at a Christian conference I attended, so I was curious to check out his fiction writing. I am an avid reader and this book seemed a good place to start, as the first in the "Bug Man" series. I have always been a fan of serial detective novels - I feel like I personally know Lucas Davenport from the "Prey" series - so I picked this up with a critical eye. What a good choice! Mr. Downs grabbed my attention and I got the book done in no more than 3 days, which with my schedule is quite a feat! I'm looking forward to reading more Bug Man adventures and other Tim Downs writing. I'm amazed that he could make the transition from Christian counselor-type writing, also excellent, to murder, but the man has pulled it off!
