Ninth Witness January 3, 2009 I operate on lists for Christmas gifts. This was on my daughter in laws list of book she would like to receive. She is an avid reader and was very pleased to receive this as one of her Christmas presents. I gather by her reaction that it will be read and appreciated.
A Flashback to a Twelve-Year-Old Yeshua December 4, 2008 It has been a hard year in Galilee. The Romans have just put down the latest rebellion, and the rows of crosses are the result. The rebellion has left nine year old Jude and his younger sister orphans. The two head down from Galilee to Jerusalem hoping to find help there.
Meanwhile, Mary, Yosef, and Yeshua are heading to Jerusalem for a different reason. It is time for Yeshua's bar mitzvah, and what better place to celebrate then during Passover with his cousin Yochanan? But danger lurks around every corner. Will this trip spell disaster for the future Messiah?
Because I got tired of the Thoene's last trip to Christ's childhood, I was disappointed when I learned they were doing it again. As with the others, I found this book exceedingly predictable. But I was captivated by the characters, especially Yeshua, Yochanan, and another young person who shows up here.
My enjoyment, however, is tempered by some issues I had with the book. I know I shouldn't expect theological and historical accuracy from a novel, but I was disappointed with some of their choices.
While non-fans will probably not enjoy this book, the Thoene's many fans will certainly want to read it.
Frustrating ending November 23, 2008 I'm a Thoene fan and will eagerly anticipate each new work. I like the idea of fleshing out the details of Christ's life as a method of connecting to a wwjd mindset. I want to make His life real and applicable to me now.
There were questions I had, however, that were not answered by book's end and it just didn't leave me in a comfortable spot.
Still cant wait for #10
Thoene"s book Ninth Witness November 18, 2008 Another outstanding book in this series. It is very easy to picture one's self right there in the setting as the story progresses.
Continuation of Story November 4, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have very much enjoyed this series, but each book seems to have a shorter portion of the story than the book before. This volume was deceiving in that it appeared that there was a long portion of the story, when in reality it was lots of study pages. The study pages are fine, but I would have appreciated more story for my money.
