Product Description Envy is a deadly poison. Faith is the antidote.
Things couldn?t be better for Rue Kessler. He just married the mother of his eight-year-old son, Montana, and finally has the family he?s always dreamed of. Not only that, his father-in-law hired him to be the new construction supervisor on a big condo project. He?s been sober for eighteen months. He?s finally plugged in at church. And he?s building his wife Ivy the house she?s always dreamed of. Life is good.
Then with no warning, Rue and his wife and son become the target of someone?s cruel and frightening attacks. What reason would anyone have to dash their hopes and dreams? What will it take to stop it? What defense is there against an enemy he can?t see?
While Rue?s head is still reeling, a man on his work crew is found half dead in Tanner Canyon. Are the attacks related? Is someone trying to put a stop to the condo project? Or is something more sinister afoot?something that will take all the faith he?s got to confront?

Good suspense--intriquing read September 17, 2008 Rue Kessler has his life by the horns. Everything is playing out perfectly since he got right with God. He ended up marrying the prostitute he had sex with, who birthed his son, he's been sober for almost two years, and his father-in-law hired him to manage a huge construction project. In addition, his wife Ivy inherited some prime real estate from her parents to build a house.
Life couldn't get any better until protesters come to town. Suddenly, Rue's life is turned topsy-turvy. His construction files go missing, his brother-in-law, who has anger in his heart and a venom -filled tongue, moves back to town, distressing Ivy. And then Rue's newly framed house is burned to the ground just after his son is shot with a gun. Who hates Rue so much that they would cause him all this pain? Is it the protestors? Is it someone else, someone no one would suspect?
Those are the questions that keep the suspense building and the book an intriguing read. While it is slightly predictable, you know who the perpetrators are pretty quickly, it's interesting to watch Rue and Ivy grapple with their lives in the midst of all this chaos and turn to God every time something goes wrong.
Armchair Interviews says: Well-written book, albeit slightly predictable. A must read for Kathy Herman fans.

Danger and Forgiveness April 27, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Kathy Herman has again created a rapidly twisting mystery, interwoven with the profound issues of forgiveness and mercy. In the third book of the Phantom Hollow Series, Ivy and Rue Kessler return from their honeymoon glowing with plans for their future. Their future, however, appears to be going up in smoke after several arson incidents appear to target Ivy's parents, the Kessler's and the family business. Are the culprits the environmental protesters or someone with a grudge against Ivy and her family? When a family member is injured, Rue is forced to come to terms with his anger and realizes that forgiveness is never deserved or earned. As in her earlier books, Kathy Herman excels in creating imperfect and very human characters who wrestle with living out their Christian walk in biblically consistent ways. In this book, the characters explore the meaning of forgiveness and how to actually forgive what seems unforgivable.
powerful inspirational character study April 19, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
After all the trials and tribulations caused by drug and alcohol abuse and their legal problems, Rue and Ivy Kessler go on a magnificent well deserved honeymoon as each has straightened out their life. They come home to Jacob's Ear, Colorado to the love of their family and to raise their eight years old son Montana together.
However, not all their woes have past. Someone is stalking the newlyweds. That unknown individual slowly begins a campaign to frighten the Kesslers. The assaults increasingly turn violent including the murder of a crew member working construction under Rue's supervision. Rue and Ivy are scared but determined to uncover the identity of their enemy and learn why before someone else is killed.
The third and final Phantom Hollow tale (see EVER PRESENT DANGER and NEVER LOOK BACK) is an exciting entry as the issue of redemption and forgiveness makes for a powerful inspirational character study. However, to fully grasp how far Ivy and Rue have come, I recommend reading the previous books. Still this is a deep tale that focuses how long does one pay for one's transgressions or is it impossible even with good deeds and paying society's price to ever overcome the past. Fans of the mini series will enjoy this exciting finish as Rue and Ivy would like to look forward but someone is a present danger motivated by looking back.
