Story Behind the Book
?Having grown up watching reruns of Gunsmoke , I knew all about Miss Kitty and the prostitute-with-a-heart-of-gold cliche. But when I looked at those women, I couldn?t imagine their hearts full of gold. Their hearts were just empty. That?s when Gloria was conceived. The story itself came about much later, when at church we sang ?Come Ye Sinners, Poor and Needy.? The chorus promises, ?In the arms of my dear Savior there are ten thousand charms.? This was the gold Gloria?s heart needed. I wanted to write a story about a woman who falls into the arms of Christ, not even really knowing that she is seeking Him.? ?Allison K. Pittman

Ten Thousands Charms was such an emotionally gripping story that I had trouble putting it down. But even when I had to work and do other things, I was still thinking about the story. I know so many women like Gloria who have been so hurt that they are emotionally dead inside and when someone offers them hope, they are terrified. I could totally see that struggle in Gloria and it was a beautiful thing to watch how God slowly wooed her to Himself through the love of believers. And while no one in this story was even close to perfect, they were totally believeable and likeable characters. John William was heroic in so many ways even with the flaws he carried with him. And Gloria was such a good mother to the babies. It was impossible not to grow to love her as she cared for the children and learned how to take care of herself and her "family," which was the one thing she never believed she would experience in her lifetime. My eyes filled with tears every time Gloria took a tiny step in faith. There were so many things she learned, and the reader learns along with her as she learns to trust. The author also does a fantastic job writing the male point of view and the intense emotions John and Gloria both felt, both positive and negative. I highly recommend this story because it nurtures both the heart and the spirit, and because I loved, loved, loved it!

Masterpiece for a First Novel March 2, 2008

If this is the very first book for Allison, where will she go from here? This book kept me interested, it was not predictable, and I certainly never bored. The characters were so realistic, I just loved big John William as he humbled himself in order to keep his baby daughter alive.
This is a poignant story of a young, pregnant prostitute trying to plan for some kind of life all alone in the world. She, instead, makes some very good friends who give her the strength to take a chance. She is a feisty, pesky little gal, and the story is both funny and serious. The "deal" which she has cut with John is simply to nurse his child in exchange for her needs being met.
As hard as Gloria tries to remain bitter and aloof, she is changed by a gentle older widow woman who takes her under her wing and teaches her how to be a wife. Emotions, suspense, surprise and tragedy all play a proper role in this Christian fiction book, and there is rarely if ever a page that does not hold a surprise for the reader.
Thank you Allison Pittman, you have a new fan.

Ten thousand Charms is great. It has been along time since
I read a book and wanted to read the next book the same day. I am a new fan of Pittman. I can't wait for the third book in this series. Enjoy

I picked this book up at the library - not having a clue who this author was or what she wrote like. I'd never even heard about her. Now I know why - it's her first book! And a great one at that. I have a five month old baby, and even with trying to take care of her and doing the housework, I managed to read it in two days!! Since I have a baby, I really loved her descriptions of the babies. She seemed to bring them to life. A lot of this book is very realistic and you feel like you're actually there with the characters. The only reason this doesn't have five stars is because I thought the ending slightly abrupt, though at least it doesn't follow the typical story type. Once again though, truely a great read! I want to recommend it to everyone!
