Much like their brethren Mercy Me, Casting Crowns was thrust into the limelight from a worship band beginning. With steady chops honed from hundreds of shows/services a year and a simple, straight-ahead rock style, the Florida-based band found themselves on top of the charts thanks to the success of massive singles "Who Am I?" and "The Voice of Truth" from its self-titled debut (2003). Lifesong is a sensible sophomore follow-up that shows the band expanding its musical creativity while lyrically remaining true to the cause. There?s a common thread of humility throughout as front man Mark Hall sings of the disenfranchised ("Does Anybody Hear Her"), the heartbroken ("Praise You in This Storm"), and the remorseful ("Prodigal"). Hall even calls outside for songwriting help from the brilliant Nichole Nordeman in "Stained Glass Masquerade," a cautionary warning about church hypocrisy in the face of keeping it real. The radio-friendly, U2- ish "Lifesong" proves a savvy book-end to the penitent closer "And Now My Lifesong Sings." Both evoke strong messages that worship is all about how one lives a life and not what kind of songs they may sing. Lifesong is an impressive effort for a band that knows its strengths and how to play to them. --Michael Lyttle

5 out of 5 stars ~another amazing casting crowns album~   December 8, 2008

After hearing Casting Crowns debut self titled CD, I didn't think that they could come close on their follow up...but wow was I wrong! Both lyrically and musically, this CD is just as amazing - Mark Hall is such a brilliant and gifted songwriter. You've probably heard "Lifesong" and "Praise You In This Storm", and if you like those songs you will probably love this whole album. One little caution; in general the other songs on here are toned down just a little bit from the first album...I personally love this, but I know that some people may not.

The CD starts out with the powerfully strong Title track, which also happens to be the first single released...then the album ends with a beautiful peaceful prayer, "And Now My Lifesong Sings". In the middle are sooo many amazing songs with even more amazing messages. "While You Were Sleeping" hits me the hardest...an acoustic song that is unbelievably well written and true. "Love Them Like Jesus" is one of my favorite Casting Crowns songs ever - heartfelt is the only way that I can describe it. So soothing and peaceful, and it is an answer to the song "Here I Go Again" on their first album. Prodigal is a nice and relaxing song, with a great acoustic style again.

If you prefer songs that rock, "Set Me Free" and "In me" both kick it up a notch, while still keeping top notch lyrics. Overall, this CD is unbelievable...and fully deserves all the awards that it has won. I highly recommended the album to both Christians and non-Christians...it's a great way to spread the message of God through awesome music! ~10/10~

5 out of 5 stars SO Touching to the Heart   September 16, 2008
I listen to this CD all the time. The beautiful spiritual songs are heart touching. I do not get tired of hearing them. The words are so beautiful; especially Praise You in This Storm. It was the perfect CD for what I am going through. I would not only reccomend this CD to those who are having troubles and need comfort but to anyone who wishes too get closer to the Lord.

5 out of 5 stars My favorite Casting Crowns CD.   September 16, 2008
Great lyrics, which is standard for CC. A great CD. Course, I like CC a lot, so I may be bias. :-) Having heard this CD and listened to it many times I would buy it again.
